iPhone 5: How Will Your Website Look?

An important (but often overlooked) element of good web design practice in 2012 is responsive design (the optimization of how your website appears on mobile & tablet devices).

Most good web designers & developers will include responsive design support for your site by including special styling instructions in the code that makes it look great on all devices: desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, etc.  However, many developers will overlook these details if they aren’t up to speed on the latest design trends and techniques.  (Spoiler alert: Be Bold Advertising always includes responsive design on the projects we build.)

Tech giant, Apple, Inc., has just released the details of their latest product, the iPhone 5.  Armed with a slew of new features & upgrades including iOS 6, a centered HD front-facing camera, an A6 processor chip, ultrafast wireless and LTE network support, and a thinner and lighter body, Apple aims to please with its new smartphone, available on September 21st.  Here at Be Bold Advertising, we were most interested in yet another feature: the 4″ Retina Display, and how this larger display will impact your web browsing experience.

The new iPhone 5 has the same width as its predecessor, the iPhone 4S, so typing on the keyboard and using touch gestures remains easy to do with one hand.  The difference is in the iPhone 5’s height, which is 9mm taller than the iPhone 4S.  This may not sound like much, but the added screen real estate will be extremely noticeable, especially when this translates to the user being able to see more of your website with less scrolling.  Combine the extra screen space with a Retina Display (326 pixels per inch, a density so rich that your eye can’t distinguish individual pixels on the screen), and you have the most powerful handheld web-browsing device in the game.  Not only will websites seem more vibrant and large, but watching movies and TV shows in 1136 x 640 resolution will give you a cinematic experience, preserving widescreen ratios without the “letterbox effect.”

Be Bold Advertising looks forward to creating new websites for customers specifically with the iPhone 5 in mind.  Please contact us today to learn more about our Web Development solutions!
